$25000 cheque

Hi
This is my first post, hope someone can help with my plea for advice.
I received a cheque this morning for $25000. The cheque was a Citizens banks cheque from Farmington NM, the remitter was Global Financial Security And Trust. The letter accompanying the cheque is from Global Trust Network Inc, Seattle.
The letter starts with a Ref No and the words UNCLAIMED WINNING.
Then continues saying they have tried to contact me, had no response, if you don't contact us funds will be returned as unclaimed.
Your fund is now deposited with Japan Lease System a security house insured at it's full value under your own name. Due to the mix up of some numbers/names we ask that you keep this award strictly from public notice until your claim is processed and funds remitted to your account.
It asks me to contact their Europe agent Quincy Owen before 27th July, and says the enclosed cheque is to cover legal and admin costs. Any breach of confidentiality will result in disqualification.

I suspect that this is a scam, the cheque looks real and I can't find anything on the net about this scam.
Please advise.

    Hiya

Been googling most everything you detailed fro the documents. Only thing I can tell you is that there is no Citizens Bank in New Mexico according to their website.

And Global Trust network seem to be Business Consultants (small scale, judging by the webpage)

The Citizens Bank in question is http://www.cbnm.com/
  • Isn't this one of the scams to hit N.I. recently? http://www.psni.police.uk/ If it is you'll find details of it on the psni web site. You could always call in at your local police station and ask there, they should know, if theya re not aware of it hitting your area then i'm sure they will be pleased to put the warning out.

Why not try clearing the cheque? :P

Does it say "non negotiable" on the top of it?

Patrick Combs tells the amazing-but-true story of how he deposited a $95,093.35 junk-mail check marked ‘non-negotiable’ – hoping to spread a little banking cheer to tellers - and how it erupted into a staggering and funny David vs Goliath-like adventure that still continues today if you count his internationally touring, award winning one-man show about the incident - and his limited run Off-Broadway at The Lambs Theatre.

If only we had ATMs for cheques in this country.

This is genuine; I got a similar email and I replied and they sent me £247,000. I couldn't believe it. I just wish I'd done it sooner.

My next door neighbour got one, and he replied and he only got £38,879 - hah, how I laughed. Then the neighbour the other side got one and he ended up with over £2 million, man was he happy (and we were a bit envious!!). But it didn't matter, coz the next week we got another one and this time we replied and got £270,000,000 (apparently it was a Eurolotto rollover).

If you don't want yours, can you forward it to me and I'll have the money.

    HTH.
