They're really only interested in big stuff, say if they had an enormously extravagant widescreen tv, or very valuable items like that.
If your dad shows that he needs the car for work and such I think thats fine. So far I havent heard of anyone having to sell items within the home on the orders of the official receiver.
Sure someone will come along with a more comprehensive answer very soon; when I went bankrupt I had virtually nothing so I can't comment so well, although the advice I was given was that the OR looks for items like i've stated above.0 -
They cannot touch her possessions and anything she owns should not even be reported to the official reciever (OR). If there is anything specific you are really worried about then check back with us.
You say your fathers car was on your mothers credit card? If your father goes bankrupt then your mums debts are not affected and she will still owe this money (if not already paid off). Likewise, anything in joint names will now be owed by your mum.

Oh yeah one more thing have had a basic bank account since october 2004 would i be able to keep this account or should i be on standby to change all DD'S over to my partners account a little confused but not concerned :-)ukboy0

You should open a new bank account when you go bankrupt. Several recent bankrupts have opened basic bank accounts with £1 a few weeks before the bankruptcy and been allowed to keep them. If you have an older account with your wages flowing in and out of it the OR will close it.
Utilities companies generally try to get bankrupts to use prepay meters because of the credit restrictions bankruptcy brings. Switch all utilities and direct debits into your partners name now.
I've heard a few conflicting reports as regards the exact ins and outs of the OR statement of affairs and subsequent IPO so I don't want to commit to too much, but the OR will leave your household with enough to live on and you must declare everything, although they seem to ignore child benefit.
