DMP or IVA & who with

Hi I have been pottering around for a while now!!!
My husband and I have unsecured debts totally nearly £70000 and due to a drop in my husband's overtime hours we are possibly going to start to struggle. .
I have been looking at DMP and IVA's on Payplan site and after filling out a form on CCCS it stated a DMP would suit us however I am just wondering with people on here think are best and which company is the best to go with if necessary.
We are trying our best to get through things but I jut wanted a bit of advice. Also our debts are all seperate and the only thing we have joint is a bank account and mortgage.
Thanks

I would give CCCS a call to arrange a chat over the phone with an advisor. The online "debt remedy" is quite good, but it can't really replace having a one to one chat with a professional advisor.

PayPlan have certainly been good and impartial in the past, but I have noticed a few inconsistencies in their advice lately and they seemed to have raised the profile of IVA's as a solution a little bit more than I am comfortable with. But saying all that, it may just be my impression and sensibilities.

Along with CAB and National Debtline, CCCS are one of the advice services listed in this sites Non-profit Debt Counsellors' List and are well respected.

    Hi

I would think that if CCCS have recommended a DMP this is the best one to go with. I am with the CCCS and would highly recommend them :)

If you need more info, you could always call the CCCS and ask for further info specific to your situation.

Hi - must have posted at the same time! I've been in mine for nearly a year, and yes, I've got a mortgage. My house is safe and even if the creditors wanted to place a charging order on the house, I wouldn't be selling anytime soon! The CCCS are wonderful to talk to - non judgemental and will lead you through all the possibilities etc.

  • What is a charging order?
Is your DMP just for yourself or are they with a partner?

As Sea says, the absolute worst they could do is secure the debt on the house by applying for a charge on it.

And when you are making regular payment they will often find it difficult to even do that.

  • I will definately look at the CCCS website again and see what is best for us. I am just worried about doing it yet as don't know if it is best to try to get through until my maternity money starts or try to get through that then do it. . . Feel like they will just say that being on a lower income through maternity is our problem!!!
