interview for sainsburys

hello, I am so nervous, I just got a phonecall from Sainsburys to ask me for an interview for the night shift. I haven't worked for anyone else for years (I mystery shop at the moment) and our youngest children are 5 & 7. I thought the night shift would be good so I am around for school runs and mystery shopping.
Please tell me the form said 21 hours 10pm - 6pm- when would these be, what days do you think? Is that 2 and a half nights? Also I am 40 - will I be the oldest? OMG please tell me anything you know. What are they going to ask me at the interview? I am not worried about the hours since I am naturally wide awake at 4am.Will I have to wear the sainsburys outfit?
Also would they not rather employ someone younger who they can pay less to (is that the case?). OOOh do you think they are interviewing many people?

By away this is one of the ways I am targeting my debt, it really matters to me.

I used to work at sains when I was in sixth form, and there are all ages there - from teens to 60 year olds, so dont worry. Anyway its illegal for an employer to discrimiate on the basis of age, you dont even have to tell them how old you are! Also as far as I am aware, everyone wore the sainbury's uniform, but there is loads of choice these days. Fleeces, polo necks, jumpers, all sorts..

  • :oTBH I am rather too tall, nearly 5 ft 11 and I detest wearing trousers that are too small for me (I don't want to look like an Undertone), hence the concern about the uniform.
  • I currently work at Sainsburys, I started on the evening shift which was from 7pm until Midnight, At our store we have a through the night shift which is from 10pm until 6pm, I am sure you won't be needed on the weekends as to the best of my knowledge their are no through the night shifts then, so I guess yoiu will be asked to work 3 nights 21 hours, I know work in the daytime as a supervisor, so once you are in there you can work your way up. You certainly won't be the oldest person there so don't worry. Good Luck.

  • im finding it impossible to try and get a job at sainsburys. I just want a simple job, doing the online grocery shopping, but in my area they have the online applications for you to do and all i ever get is sorry u don't meet our skills required. :argh

  • Facing the future, just to wish you the best of luck with your interview for the Sainsbury's job. As you do mystery shopping (which can be really difficult ), you will be able to give examples of your initiative, organisational skills and reliability.:T (not to mention running a house)
  • Thanks for all the great thoughts. I wasn't going to tell them about the mystery shopping but I will now! It is the 10p - 3am shift one which suits me because of the children.

    Exciting!

I think it's a good idea to tell them about the mystery shopping, and it will be something for you to talk about. At the end of the interview they'll probably ask if you have any questions. Try and think of two or three as it shows you've thought about the job and are showing an interest.

Please let us know how you get on.
