pulling head out of the sand!!

Hi all, I have debt and before having my second child worked full time and could afford my mortgage and general life. no CC's just home owner loan and mortgage. but when my son was born - life turned upside down, he has a number of medical problems and mean't i couldn't go back to work after the 6 months so had 6 months without pay. now i am back to work i am just part time. we don't get any help with tax credits as hubby earns too much (HAHA ) so its put a huge hole in our finances and we don't over spend either. sorry just wanted to rant. anyway have pulled up my boots and got on to all my financial products and sorting it out.
thanks for all on here as it give support and advice to a sand dweller like me but have pulled my head out and become an active consumer!!!!:j

  • Sorry to hear about your problems, my youngest daughter was born with a heap of them and it has meant some tough decisions in our lives finding the best way to cope and which peter to rob and pay to paul! I can sympathise because a lot of it is the outside face we put to the world whilst the inside is crumbling away big time.Have you looked into disability living allowance? It isn't means tested although carer's allowance is and it is also taxable. If you got the higher components then i think tax credits will look again at your claim, because they allow a proportion for this- although i could be wrong. Look also at the support available in your area, via health visitors etc and your local GP surgery. They might have tips about things you may be able to get to help you. One of the things i will say is don't feel guilty. You are doing the best you can in circumstances which are beyond your control at the moment. Never feel awful about putting the needs of your family first- it will work out and sod anyone who gives you a hard time. Good luckxxx

    Hiya!

    I love your name too!

Welcome to MSE! It sounds like youve had a bit of a rough patch! Do you think posting your SOA would help? This board is FANTASTIC - I am travelling at the moment and still find it hard to stay away ;) !

Unfortunately life throw things at us, and it is easy to find ourselves in debt because of it - but it sounds like you know what you need to do - if we can be of any more help, give us a shout!

    xx
  • Thanks all - the name came from when I was at school and always had a cold and tissue. Didn't like it back then but love it now - sad eh!!

We did get DLA for my son when he was younger as he had a catheter first in the usual place then direct from his bladder out of his tummy. it did come in handy but because thats gone since they took part of his kidney out we no longer qualify. its hard as we are coming up to his 4th surgery. I have got a good response from our financial companies - asking for a discount has worked with our energy company - 20% off!!!! so am on to find cheapest deal on car insurance. the website is fantastic and given me the kick in the bum I needed!!!
