BT broadband subscription - should i cancel

Hi,

I have an 18 month contract with BT. I have since moved in with my girlfriend and she already has broadband connection from another provider. My feelings are to cancel my direct debit as im only 7 months into the contract. I dont need BT services anymore but will cancelling my direct debit with them hurt my credit rating in anyway.

Cheers,
Kev

  • IF you cancel the direct debit you will get a whopping great big bill from BT for the remainder of the services charged for the rest of your contract.
    Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043
    Que sera, sera. <3
  • But the thing is they dont know where i live as i have moved. Also why should i pay for the bill if im not using the services. If it doesnt affect my credit score im not all that bother about cancelling the direct debit

    Whats your advise?
  • Im pretty sure it can affect your credit score. All providers whether it is BT or Virgin Media do credit checks. When you enter into a monthly contract its sometimes opened as a credit account the same way a mobile phone bill is. Plus they wont write off the debt they will use court orders and DCAs.
  • They will also eventually track you down. and the bill will be even BIGGER!!!!
  • You signed a contract, you are obliged to pay BT the full amount to terminate this contract even if you are not using their services. Not doing so will end up with bailiffs coming round to your house demanding stuff.. you'll get stuck with a big charge and yes, your credit rating will get affected.

Do you honestly think you will never use BT again? Stop being immature and phone them, explain your circumstances and see what they can do

I think there is a part on credit searches that logs utilities and things and I know from the previous owners of this house that they will put debt collection agencies on the case.

Also you should not cancel or get away with not paying because I have shares in BT :D

There is something called the direct debit guarantee, which will allow BT to still take any money owed from your bank.

You might as well see about moving it, or leaving it running, as the next occupants may be able to take the contract over for you
