Switched TO save, now regret it all

Hi

We switched (as a family household) to Talktalk. the 18 month contract includes line rental, weekend free calls (package 3) and broadband "UP TO 8 MEG"

We have never been above 600kbps

The real frustrating this is, this is not exactly a webpage with lots of pictures to load, and it took 3 minutes for me to post this. I will have yo copy and paste everything I've written here incase the connection "times out" and everything is lost...

Our average broadband speed is 300kbps

This is slower than our previous 0.5 meg

at leats before we KNEW what to expect

Broadband makes up 1/3 of our service, say £8
300kbps is 1/8 of the speed we had hoped for (no-one can absolutely manage 8meg) but 2.4 would be nice. We dont live that far from the exchange :S

does that mean our broadband bill should be reduced to £1 :D haha

my post is asking, is there a way out of this 18 month contract. This is so frustrating, but I believe technically by saying "up to 8 meg" they could provide 56kbps? (dial-up modem speed)

Or are they failing to provide a service?

Please help!! argh *copies and pastes*

It can be very slow at peak times but you need to run this program about -4 times during a 24 hours period to get an average speed. The details will be logged with TalkTalk and will confirm whether it is your set-up or your ISP which is causing the slow down.

My broadband went very slow in December and checked everything (filter, line noise, etc). I even kicked off with my ISP and they were flumuxed as to what the problem was. I then changed my telephone cable (from router to phone point) and went from 1mb back to my usual 5mb.

My father was with talk talk (despite my advice) and he had to wait until the twelve months were up before he moved (he had a 12 moth contract).

To cancel early you would need to prove they were the problem and not your set-up. They will argue you have poor equipment, BT wires or a virus on your computer (been there, heard it all before). If you had slow speed before you must be a fair distance from the telephone exchange and so even harder to prove the ISP is not delivering.

Sorry I can't be much more help, if you post this in techie forums as well you may get some advice which MAY speed things up whilst your stuck with TalkTalk.
Anger ruins joy, it steals the goodness of my mind. Forces me to say terrible things. Overcoming anger brings peace of mind, a mind without regret. If I overcome anger, I will be delightful and loved by everyone.
