How Can You Tell A Fake.......

......Burberry bag please?
My cousin gave it to my mum who in turn has given it to me (hope you are all keeping up!!!). I do not want or like this bag, so was thinking of putting it on e-bay to help with my debts, but not sure if it is fake or not. My cousin is loaded so for her it wouldn't be unusual to have the real thing and just get rid now she no longer wants it. She also likes a bargin and I wouldn't put it past her to go for the fake also
So how can you tell? Would hate to put it on e-bay as the genuine article only to find out that it's not  Any help would be gratefully received - many thanks.

some designer bags come with a card for authenticity and/or a dustbag to keep it in, does your cousin have either of these? The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about - Oscar Wilde:beer:

Sadly, the fakes often come with these too...

Hi Sue
it's not hard to tell at all!
1.) check the lining. check nothing is glued, everything is stitched. glue=fake.
check the brand inside the bag, what does it say? is the tag stitched or glued? Is it good quality?
2.) check the bottom of the bag for quality. most fakes use cheap material at the bottom.
3.) handles: again: glue is the sign of fake. poor quality is the sign of fake. stitches, closed ends, tidyness is the sign or original.
4.) if all add up, its more likely than not a genuine bag. to make sure, examine it very carefully, then walk into the burberry store and look for the same bag. If you find the same bag, examine carefully and try to match it up with the one you have. If you see obvious quality differences, or considerable colour differences (does not come in the usual bruberry colours, and your bag's colour can't be seen in the store on any other bag) its possibly a fake. If you cant find the exact bag in store (maybe its last season) then look for the one most similar to it, its more likely to be an "upgraded" new season version.
also, if your bag had a serial number, you can call them up and ask them to verify the number.
good luck!!! if you are really clueless, you can stilla sk your cousin to tell you where she bought it, you can say one of the handles came off or something
or you want to see if they have it in blue for your friend's bday or something...sorry i know its not nice to lie. but an innocent little fib?

Thanks deliciousa - have just looked at the bag and everything is stitched on (with the exception of the metal burberry label on the front. I also noticed that on the inside of the popper - there is a pat number - would this be the serial number you mentioned? I am getting quite excited now, as after following your advice it could just be a real one!!!!
Thanks to you all for taking the time to reply - I will keep you informed of my findings and if I do sell it on ebay will let you know!!When you were born, you were crying and everyone around was smiling. going by past experience

if you try to list it on ebay and it is fake, they will remove it.
I don't know what they do or how they tell but you'll get an email saying it is fake and that they will suspend your account if you are persistantly trying to list fake goods. However they also give a contact number to call if you can confirm that it is real

Hi Sue
the metal label of course can be glued as it would be quite difficult to stitch
wow sounds like a real one, should get you nice £££
but be careful for fake bidders and scam emails which say "you have been paid" but the money is "held" until you dispatch the goods... when i sold my dior bag, i got about 5 of those... always check IN PAYPAL if you have been paid and transfer the balance to your bank account straight away and THEN dispatch...
