Hi,
i have been unwell fro the past 2 years and my husband and i have really struggled but the last 6 months have been horrendous, i have fallen well behind with my credit card payments, every other bill i have managed to pay and still am paying, but these 3 cards i have are a nightmare the three total £9000, i have tried writing to them and offering to pay maybe half the amount a month but they are not intrested, is there anyone here that can advise. They ring up at least 15 times a day 0800 numbers i feel persecuted.
regards lynsey

If you're feeling unwell & stressed, then at this point I would contact one of the free debt help charities such as CCCS, CAB, Payplan etc.
They have vast experience of these situations & will advise you as to the best way forward for your particular situation.Donedoingdebt Lightbulb moment January 2000. Debt at highest approx £102,000. Debt now (October 2009 - absolutely fork all!!!)

Phone up your phone company & ask if they can change your number for free, tell them you are having nuisance calls (well- they are). If you cant it may be as well to pay to have it changed, save you getting more stressed. I am sure that 15 times a day is unreasonable & amounts to harrassment.Tallyhoh! Stopped Smoking October 2000. Saved £29382.50 so far!0

write to card companies telling the to remove your number and put in writing trust me theyll soon leave you alone hsbc were harrassing me for my partners debt but would never ring when he wasnt at work only when they new he would not be. So i told them every time to ring his mobile knowing full well they wouldnt . so i dropped an email to there customer complaints team explaining that i did not wish to recieve calls and it was harrasment etc etc . I have not recived one call since and althought they were told to put in wriitng they havent done that either as its easier to bully by phone

Hi Lynsey, and well done for taking a big step towards dealing with this.
I would certainly advise talking to CCCS. They can help you with all aspects of debt. You'll also get lots of help and support here. If you can post a statement of affairs (SOA), then lots of people will come along and offer all sorts of helpful advice to help sort out your finances.
If you're being pestered by creditors, then you can ask them only to contact you by post in future. You can also insist that they deal with your representative, such as somebody from CCCS.0 -
Hi
I had this some years ago. Ring B.T and give them the numbers...then they will bar them from coming through. That will give you some breathing space...then ring up the credit cards and explain that you cannot afford to pay the amounts in full for a period of time (give them a realistic time frame if its a year then say a year) take their name and confirm in writing. Request interest is frozen. The knack 'as long as you pay something' there is not a lot they can do. Yes your credit file will be affected but you have to weigh up the stress levels and sleep. They will continue to harass and all you say is that I am making an agreement to pay..they will try to get more. At the end of the day they cant have what you havnt got...stick to the agreement. They will eventually go quiet but keep to the agreement.0 -
Thanks everyone for you help, i have just telephoned cccs but they said they cant help as my husband is self-employed and has been for the past 22 years, dont know what difference that makes my debts seem to be the same as a lot of people on here, they said to get intouch with cab but they dont seem to have much say in things0

Hi. Did you contact thr right CCCS ( ie the FREE one?). If they can't help try some of the other free charities listed on this site (think they are at the top - advice for newbies or smoething similar). Failing that try CAB or your local council (in Birmingham there is free debt advice for Birmingham council tax payers)Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0

Yes it was the right cccs but they dont deal with self employed people

Hi Lynsey,
Can I confirm you rang the free helpline on 0800 138 1111?
We have a specialist team of counsellors that deal with self-employed people, so we can certainly still accomodate giving you and your husband advice.
Regards
