Hi,
Does anybody have any opinions on dropshipping or already do it? I've read about it and didn't know if it would be a good way of making some extra money.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks

I have some experience of dropshipping. I have in the past used 4/5 drop shippers for some products. It can be good because i didn't have to store items, package them and dispatch them as all that is handled by the dropshipping company. Also there is not a great finiancial outlay as usually you place an order with the dropshipper once you recieve an order from a customer.
The problem however is that you'r not always sure the condition of the item especially if you are dropshipping refurbished electronic goods like i was. While you get a very basic description it's difficult to know the entire condition of the item, so you need to be careful about how you word your ads. The other problem is that the end customer belives the item to have come from you and so if there are any delivery problems you will have to act as the man in the middle between dropshipper and customer to try and get to the bottom of the problem. Apart from the odd transaction i have had a very pleasant experience with the drop shipping companies i have dealt with but it can take a while to find someone who trusts you and that you can also trust.0 -
Dropshipping is great in theory, but not always great in practice. I've done a bit of it in the past, using a few different suppliers, and had mixed experiences.
As pp said, the customer believes they are buying from you so YOU have to take responsibility for quality of goods, speed of delivery etc. Dropshippers often don't give status of orders you've placed with them either, so you can't easily tell if something has been dispatched to your customer yet... which isn't ideal if your customer asks for an update. Also, stock levels aren't always provided, so you could end up selling something that's out of stock and won't be available for weeks. Doesn't look good to your customer! If you're trading on eBay, remember that customers could easily mark you down feedback-wise if they have any problems, even if the problem has really been caused by your supplier.
You need to make sure that you can easily get in touch with your dropshipper - test their communication before you commit to them (e.g. phone them to make sure they actually take their calls, email them to see how quickly they respond). If possible, it can be good to do a 'test order' using a friend or family member - that way, you'll see if they deliver in a timely manner and if the goods they are providing are in good condition.0 -
How much is it possible to make from dropshipping if say for example i was working upto 20 hours a week0
-
dropshipping is not really down to how many hours a week you work. It depends on products you find, the price you find them for and the price you are able to sell them for and depends how many you sell too. Also depends what kind of products you want to be dropshipping.0
