    No news lately?
    Maybe you're of the hook!

Learn from the mistakes of others - you won't live long enough to make them all yourself.

  • I'd be interested to hear how you get on with this one as well. I've got some old defaults sitting on my history, some of which date back to 1996, but as I made a payment in 2002 I've still got it showing. It's under an old address which should drop off at the end of this year (I will have been in my newer address for 6 years as of Jan 06) and I'm now flapping to work out if I should try and get it removed or hang fire until January and see if it disappears

  • Tinaalives,

Having fallen foul of this on a very old repo from the eighties (acknowledged debt after 11 years 4 months-clock restarted), I have one thing to say to you.

Do not give then any more information-no matter what they threaten. The worst they can do is take you to county court-big deal-you do not even have to attend. If you 'acknowldge the debt' (those more technically minded on here or money advice people can give you the exact specifics of this) or make ANY payment then the clock starts again-another 6 years. If no payments are made & the debt is not acknowledged before the 6 years from the default date the debt IS statute barred. You still owe the money but can't be made to pay it-if the continue to hassle you it's counted as harrasment-look on the internet for letters you can send re this. Also check out debthelpuk forum (the 'ask the expert forum'-guys called simon wiggins). He's fully trained & can advise foc. good luck!
