Advice Anyone Please ??

In November I took my camcorder into a local photography shop to get it repaired. The owner said he would send it to the company who deals with his repairs and they would call me within a week to let me know how much it will cost to repair. He then gave me a reciept to say i had left it with them.
Three months later after several visits and me calling them on the phone he got my camcorder back in the shop for me to collect..... (the repair people never called either), because it took so long i said i just wanted it back, no repairs.
On Friday I went to collect my camcorder and he said "thats just £10 please"
For what??? for the cost of a courier to send it to the repair people (He told me he was sending it in with a batch of others and the same on the way back), he said he would have told me....He never.
I told him it was outrageous that i should wait 3 months just to get my camcorder back, now i have to pay!!! No way....He then said dont pay then it will go in the bin as its not repairable!!!
I dont care if it can be fixed I want it back. £10 isnt a big deal but I feel he's trying to charge me beacuse he didnt earn anything from me.
Where do I stand?? Anyone??
