Paying of Debts?

I hit financial troubles after a divorce and then a bad accident in which i lost a leg, i have in general negotiated token payments with debtors i owe money to, none are secured and the highest is Masterloan and is for 6,500, they review my situation fairly regularly and i send letters out telling them that at present my situation has not changed, I am 35 and on disability benefits, the problem is my doctor has told me that the chance of me working again is extremely remote, a combination of health issues and the fact i have to take large amounts of controlled drugs every day for pain. My worry is, what will happen if i tell my debtors this, at present i keep telling them i hope to work again and turn everything around and have been telling them this for the past 7 years. I have no CCj's or anything like that, but, worry what will happen if they are told that there is a small chance o them getting there money back at present it would take me 36+ years to pay off Masterloan and 122 years to pay of one of my other debts, all the others vary between these in terms of years, any advice would greatly be received. Many Thanks

    Hi,

I would contact the Consumer Credit Counselling Service. Their phone number is 0800 138 1111. They are a charity, and their advice is all free. Good luck.
  • Hey SandS

I'd also recommend contacting CCCS, Citizens Advice Bureau or your local Money Advice centre. As you've been on token offers for 7 years, they should be able to assist you in requesting a write-off or suggest another strategy that puts an end date on how long you'll be paying your debts off.

Good luck, and well done for keeping it up wth the token offers for so long.:o
