Hi
This may sound like a daft question but what is the card for?
Visited the local store today and got a couple of decent suitcases, used a friends card, but not sure if the checkout person swiped it, or what benefit it provides as nothing shows on the receipt.
Any info much appreciated

None as far as I know!! u just need to have a card to be able to shop there. Occasionally they send out leaflets etc in post but thats about it as far as I am aware.Tin can banky - 3/4 full £1 and £2, Quidco January £19.49, Boots points 2543, Tesco Club Card 2763, Piggy Points 8400

I assumed it was one of those places that works on a 'club' basis, like Costco. Don't know what the reason for this is - some legal implication perhaps?0

yeah no "benefits" to it but you HAVE to have one to shop there... purchases will not go through the till without one.
Its a bit like costco yeah.. i never found out the EXACT reason why during my 15 months working for them (but im sure its some legal thingy due to the "cut price brands" they sell + a nifty way to track each customers purchasing/spending habits) .. but as far as i know they are still free (used to be £1) and can be useful anyway compared to the shop not having them... for example u get the mailshot mailed to you (in theory) with the upcoming/latest offers in them and if you ever loose your reciept but need a refund you can give in your details and your purchases will be stored on the computer at customer services... CS is also the place to go if youve forgotten your card to get a "day pass".

Thanks for that - always wondered now at least i know...decent luggage though, and the stores have spruced up a lot since the last time i remember.0

Matalan have now stopped issuing their day pass - i.e. if you forget your card, you have to register for a new one. As it isn't a loyalty bonus card, I'm ALWAYS forgetting mine.spendy/she/her ***DEBT-FREE DATE: 11 NOVEMBER 2022!*** Highest debt: £35k (2006) MY WINS: £3,541 CASH; £149 Specsavers voucher; free eye test; goody bag from Scottish Book Trust; tickets to Grand Designs Live; 2-year access to Feel Amazing App (worth £100); Home Improvement & Renovation Show tickets; £50 to spend on chocolate; Harlem Globetrotters tickets; Jesus Christ Superstar tickets + 2 t-shirts; Guardians of the Galaxy goody bag; Birmingham City v Barnsley FC tickets; Marillion tickets; Dancing on Ice tickets; Barnsley FC v Millwall tickets0

I remember the day when you had to sign in for matalan. No name in the book no shoppy shoppy.
Its an utterly pointless thing i think. A card to shop there but with no benefits and incentives and the clothes *Can* be found cheaper else where like primark.0 -
I believe its for marketing purposes. They have all your details and can track how you shop, when etc.Look after the pennies and the £££s will look after themselves0

Our nearest Matalan's (Staines) have stopped asking for a card, so I've binned it - as others have said don't see the point of it at all.
Now all I need to do is stop all the junk mail, it's one of those catalogues you wished they delivered in an unmarked brown envelope ;-)
Rufus (mostly wearing Primark and Matalan)!0
