Volunteer - Entitled to some expenses?

That was the plan LittleVoice, I hope they agree! They keep saying how vital I am and how necessary it is that I'm at this meeting and that, so hopefully they'll put their money where their mouths are.
Thanks Sue, you're right about not carrying on in limbo.
Wish me luck!No longer using this account for new posts from 20130 -
I used to run a volunteer centre (briefly) - a job centre for volunteers to volunteer, and for charities and voluntary organisations to request volunteers.
Within the sector it is expected that the volunteers should have their costs reimbursed, especially travel costs of the nature you are talking about.
Volunteering is not about being out of pocket financially - anyone can give to charity, you just put your money in the collection box - but about giving your time for free. The budgets and funding of the charity/voluntary organisation should include allowances for volunteer travel costs.
So, ask for their policies and procedures on expenses, then put in your claim; back date it to recoup your outstanding costs. Remember you can always negotiate from there if they say they can't afford.
One final point; I bet the organisation manager claims back their expenses in full.

There's no one manager, but the top dog of this project - I dread to think the wage he's on :eek:No longer using this account for new posts from 20130

Good luck Gemmzie. I hope you can claim your travel expenses. I think most volunteers can do but I can see why the charities don't always tell them of this outrught; it will save money for the cause. No Links in Signatures by Site Rules - MSE Forum Team 20
