It was good and we ended up wearing wellies under the sheets as it was very wet. The best memory i had was dancing to blondie's parrallel lines before the illicit alcohol took hold!! Try 15 years earlier I was one of the first girl venture scouts in the Northwest 1980 - 1983, We were pioneers and felt that we couldnt go far enough in the girl guides- badge wise that is!!OOOH 1996???

We had a rule, you had to wear shorts, and if it started raining round the camp fire at night, you couldn't go to bed till it stopped! ME TOO! ( BUT LATER THAN YOU) My OH was a venture scout leader, and because they allowed girls to join and had no female leaders, I had to go to camp with them to help out with any "female" issues, even though I was only around 17-18 myself.

We tried that as well , but we used to get into the huts and leave the lads freezing outside atthe first sign of rain because there were only three girls we had first dibs on everything so would lock them out anyway and sit with our woodpecker cider in the warmth.Can't beat "character buiding" can you.

I totally agree with you, i learned all my camping skills with them, did the bronze award for the duke of edinburghs, absailed, canoed, hiked all over learned tacking skills- it was absolutely great and has stood me in good stead all my life. We never did anything like that in guides and brownies and i have been recently thinking about volunteering for the scouts again as i have since met up with fellow venture scouts and i miss it.ME TOO!
