Credit File Request Confusion

Hi everyone,

This is my first post so I apologise if it's not in the right place or has been answered before (I did look but couldn't find ).

I recently requested my credit files from Experian, Equifax and CallCredit by post. I am still waiting for the file from Callcredit. but I am very confused by the files returned by the other two CRAs. Despite receiving quite a few demands for payment from several DCAs there is only one default registered against me with Equifax (None with Experian) for a debt which nobody is actually chasing me for. The debts I am being chased for are mine and are all about 4-5 years old but why is there no record of any of these other defaults on my files.

I have lived at my current address for many years and it is the only address I provided on the credit file requests but each agency has an old university address for me. Could it be that those defaults are registered at these old university addresses and by only providing them with my current address they in turn have only provided me with the credit information linked to my current address???

I think you have to provide other addresses on your credit request to get all teh information held. Did they not ask for previous addresses?
    unsecured Debts at [strike]August 2007 £79,984[/strike] September £79,579 [STRIKE]Snowballing date July 2013[/STRIKE].

The addresses were so old that I had actually forgotten all about them until I saw them on the credit reports as linked addresses.

Does that mean I actually have to apply for my credit files again, this time providing them with the addresses that I got from them if I want any information for these addresses as well???

Thanks, Mollymop. I've read your post, I read it before I posted my own question and it was actually very helpful. But in your case it seems you did supply the CRAs with you previous addresses when you made the application. so the situation seems "slightly" different.

It does appear that you have managed to dodge the bullet either by DCAs incompetance, CRAs incompetance or because enough time has passed that the debts have simply "fallen off" your credit record.

Good luck with your quest to be debt free.

 I've been searching this forum all day and many posts discuss addresses & credit reports but none where a knowledgable MoneySaver is able to give definitive advice as to the effect of not adding previous address information to statutory credit report requests where the agency already has that address on file as a "linked" address. Maybe this is just one of those obscure things that most people avoid by being more thorough than others ;) and so not many people are familiar with???

My most heartfelt appreciation for everyone that has tried to help :A.
  • In my situation, all linked addresses for the previous 6 years were added automatically to my files by the creditors that I took the accounts out with.
If you have lived at your current address for more than 6 years, then you do not have to provide details of any other previous addresses.
If you had any defaults registered against you when at previous addresses then these defaults will automatically follow you to which ever address you subsequently move to.
Defaults are registered against the individual & not the address they happen to live in at the time.
As to why they're not showing on your files at the moment, I can't say. Are you sure you received default notices for these accounts? No default notice should mean no default being registered.

Thanks for the response :D. I don't know for a certainty that I actually received any defaults but doesn't passing the debt over to a DCA mean that a default has occured and already been registered with the CRAs by the OD. In any case once debt is in the hands of the DCA would they not be in a position to the issue their own defaults as many of their letters threatened to do?

What you are saying about defaults being registered against the individual and not the address makes good sense.WHich is why I am so baffled by their absence from my reports.

I take it then that you believe it would be a waste of my money to request my reports again only this time providing the linked addresses as my previous address. since the information from the linked addresses would already have been added to the report I was given.
