How do you get perfume smell out of clothes?

Options
Hi,

I am hoping someone can help me. I purchased a acrylic top from a charity shop and it stuck of strong perfume. I popped it in the wash and the whole wash came out smelling of perfume including my husbands football kit!
Anyone one know what I could use to get rid of the smell. Neither of use like the smell of purfume.

Thanks in advance
Sandra

  • You could try using white vinegar in the machine rinse and drying stuff outside??
If white vinegar kills nasty pongs it should work on perfume too.

Unfortunately didn't work totally. The clothes apart from the original jumper have now had three washes and its only faint. The jumper has had a additional wash on its own and still smells strong. Left it outside on the line. Perhaps a week in the sun/wind may help. Probably will have to donate it back to the charity shop!!

If anyone has anymore suggestion, they will be greatfully received.

    Thanks in advance

  • How about putting in a bag with some bicarb of soda and leaving it for a day as it is good for absorbing smells - but make sure its dry first though.

Hang it out on a clothes line and let the wind blow through it.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

If it is only one item that smells strongly I would put it in a solution of warm water and white vinegar and let it "steep"for a couple of hours- then wash with white vinegar in the rinse cycle and dry outside.

Had to edit as my keyboard seems to miss letters and spaces out and makes my posts look wierd.

    Hi,

Thanks for the additional tips. As I am out of vinegar, I will try the bic of soda and then if that doesn't work, try the soak method when I get some more vinegar and then leave it outside.

will let you know what works
    Thanks

    Hi all,

The tips worked. I left the top in a bag of bic of soda for a few days. Then washed with a vinegar rinse and left outside for a few days to dry and get a good blow.

    Thanks again for the tips

  • Try using Pet Stain & Odor Remover.. I have used it several times on different perfume or colognes with very good success.
