Help Letter from AIC

Can anyone give me some advice, today I recived a letter from AIC debt collection regarding american express. I have an outstanding balance of £2600. I have tried to offer a min payment of £30 per month. But this was not enough and they have now passed this off to AIC.

I called them this morning and they were so so nasty. I said that I could make small monthly payments, this was a no no and that if I could not make a full payment court was the only option.

What does this all mean im really worried, Im a full time student with an income of a grant only £900 per month, £200 is childcare. I dont even have a car because im so skint.

HElp the stress is massive and I have work due in at uni on monday and cant think of anything else other that this nasty phone call.

Sorry to rant Chante

Unfortunately they aren't in the business of being nice because that doesn't pay.

Try not to worry about their threats because I suspect that's all they are.

Just stick to the amount that you can afford to pay at the moment and get yourself some proper debt advice from CAB or one of the other charities.

At the end of the day if it did go to court you might even end up paying less than £30 per month so I would be tempted to say to AIC the next time they threaten this to

" Do it then, that way a judge can decide what is fair amount to pay".

    See what they say then!

Many people are scared when they hear the words "We'll take you to court"
but I take the view that things will be dealt with fairly and the DC's will have to accept any judgements.

Please do not let this take over your life. Concentrate on your studies and not the bullies.

    Take care xx

I would continue to pay the £30, they can either like it or lump it.

At least you are showing that you are willing to pay.

Can you really afford £30 anyway? Don't overstretch yourself, you don't have a massive income as it is.

Also get yourself some proper advice if you can. Does your Uni have cousellors? They should be able to give you some advice, sometimes the law depts run clinics to other students too.

    If not try CAB.

Let us know how you get on xx

This company are the pits for bullying tactics - carry on paying what you can and if they threaten court say go ahead - it is highly unlikley that they will go down this route - I had a debt with Nat west that passed it on to these people - I wasn't paying them as much as they wanted, so they passed the debt onto someone else - I had lots of threats saying they would take me to court, as of yet not one of my creditors has gone down that route
  • I've been dealing with this bunch for the last year.... very nasty indeed. I had a debt of £1400 they offered me £1200 to pay it off but I told her I didn't have that money and would have to pay monthly she said I wasn't even trying (I was going to get a loan to pay it off I was that stressed with the attitude) after begging her not to take me to court they agreed to let me pay monthly I paid them £200 a month for 3 months which was hard cos I wasn't earning that much. I lost my job and had been paying it off at £10/20 a month since. I got a call the other day saying they weren't happy with what I was paying and didn't want to wait for the payment. I told her that I didn't have the money and I was giving all I could. This isn't good enough for them there is nothing I can do. She went all nasty and said that I was asking to be taken to court and that's what was going to happen then hung up. This was 3 days ago and I've not heard anything since, I'm going to call them now and complain about the person who handles my account and then ask what is realistic to do next.

If you call them and lay your situation on thick and tell them you're doing all you can. Tell the person you're speaking to that if they can't speak to you properly then you want to speak to somebody else. Tell them you're going to seek advice and that you can't give them what you haven't got.

Good luck and don't let them get you down!
  • Well I just spoke with them told them I was going to get advice and wasn't happy with the bullying tactics. now after being told it was going to go to court again now they're saying that the money I sent the other day has been taken off and that it's all fine.... I think they just like threatening court. don't let them get to you I think as long as you pay what you can then there is nothing they can do and if they say anything just tell them court would probably make you pay less as it's a struggle as it is.

You should not speck on the phone to these people ,deal only by letter . Also never sign letters . Never pay by direct debit or debit card . There are cases of these companies taking more than the agreed amounts. Be warned . This is why they don,t like supplying payment slips .
