Save money on Dominos Pizza

A nice little flaw I've noticed with Dominos pricing strategy.

They do 4 sizes of Pizza: Personal (7"), Small (9.5"), Medium (11.5") and Large (13.5").

I noticed that they discounted the personal pizza far more than the others so I got my trusty calculator out (bare with me).

The area of pizza you get for each one is: Personal 38.5" squared, Small 70.9" squared, Medium 103.9" squared, Large 143.1" squared.

Looking at the prices for a typical pizza, I chose Meteor, a personal is £3.99 and a small is £9.99. If you buy two personal pizzas you get 77" squared of tasty pizza for £2.01 cheaper than the 70.9" squared small.

Still with me? Good!

For the price of a medium you can buy three personal pizzas saving yourself £1.02 and getting an extra 11.6" squared of pizza.

It does fall down slightly at the large as you can't get four personals for the same price but, pound for pound, the personal is still better value netting you 9.6" squared of pizza as opposed to 9.5.

The only thing to add is that you may possibly end up with more crust buying personals but I've done enough maths for one day to try and work it out.

    funnieeeeeeeeeee
  • All I can say is that I was bored at work and me and my colleague decided to keep our brains busy for a few minutes! Also remember that regardless of codes you use, to get a percentage off, this still works!

Personal size pizza is the best value pizza for square inches per pound so only order pizza of this size to save money.

I dont eat pizza and certainly not at dominoes pices!

I note with the above you've worked out the entire area of a whole pizza, correctly using pi x r(squared). You've then divided the figure by 4 which would assume that 4 slices is always a quarter of the whole pizza and that all sizes have 16 slices? is that right, seems a bit high - that said the maths holds so long as every whole pizza has the same number of slices (which i have no idea about).

I did the some calcs using the whole deluxe pizza - small, medium and large at £7.99, £10.99 and £12.99 (areas: 153.93, 283.52 and 415.47) and they works out 5p, 4p and 3p per square inch respecitively - so in that case the bigger one is cheaper.
  • Get over to the Old Style board and you'll find recipes to make your own pizzas at a fraction of the cost - but I ain't working it out like the OP did :p
  • haha fantastic that was brilliant!!! LOL!!!!
