Introducing myself

Hi,

I am here as the title says, to introduce myself.
I got into debt when my business didn't do very well. After a couple of years I jumped ship before I was pushed but managed to get a job. Once I started to get a regular income I did myself a debt management chart, which meant I could have been debt free by 2011. Things were going well until my partner realised his debts were out of control and went down the debt management path.
Being soft I helped him out whenever he didn't keep to the arrangement. He would come home with some new DVDs for the children then ask me to pay for the car tax etc.
Anyway, just after christmas I had to go off sick and still am, waiting for an op. As a result I haven't been able to do any overtime. That meant I would just pay the mimimum on all my debts but I could manage (just). Then a solicitors bill came through for my partner for his fight to see his children (court order set up 7 years ago and now his ex-wife wants to change it). That was over £1000, but they said we could pay £200 a month. Then my partners car ended up in the garage with over £500 worth of work done on it. Then my car got broken into so that needs fixing, but not enough to need to claim on insurance. Finally took my car in to garage to have a look at damage. They asked about the noise (I thought it was wheel barings) they checked it out and turns out the drive shafts need doing at £250.
So what was a bad but controllable debt is starting to get out of control.
In total I owe £31000 in loans and £11500 in credit cards.

just want to say welcome and youve came to the right palce...it might help if you post your statement of affairs (in a sticky somewhere at the top of the forum) then the pros could come in and have a wee shot at helping from a practical point of view ...

    Hi and Welcome

Sounds like you have had a tough time of it of late.

Well done for coming on here though, its the first step. As above, try and post your SOA (all your incomings/outgoings, debts and their APRs) and everyone will try and help you save some money.

Also, for some extra cash have you tried selling all old/unwanted things on ebay/amazon/play? Could make you extra cash to put towards some of the credit cards?

    :o
    Debt: just my mortgage :D
  • Thanks to both of you. Just a quick question. Do I post the SOA as a new thread on here?
    Thanks

you never know this might even turn into your diary (fingers crossed)
  • I have been a little overwhelmed by the amount of forums and sub forums and threads etc. I haven't really had a good look round yet.
Does everyone have a diary and what sort of things do they put in there?

not everyone has a diary some find it helps them some dont ...some people like them some hate them ...it's purely a personal thing... people put basically what ever they want in their diaries loosely and occasionally even talking about money ..but mainly it is a way for people to keep themselves on track and to look back and see how well they have done ...some diaries like hypnos are truly inspiring and some like ss's (southern scousers) will have you in stitches (i'm liking his gambling diary just now) people go on there to flirt to take the mick and generally have fun look around see which ones(if any) you find interesting people like to know their diaries are read it makes them feel less alone ...good luck with your soa

the forums are all in a kinda order with sub forums coming onto that heading but maybe requiring a forum of their own but not big enough to warrant their own forum (like the br forum on the dfw board) in each of these forums you have the threads basically started by an op about a subject they feel important enough to talk about you generally find most people stick to one or two forums dfw os (debt free wanna bee ,old style) etc but may occasionally wander into another forum like pensions if they have a specific pension query that's the great thing about mse you can wander about and have a nosey
  • Hi again Tazz.... as elantan said, a diary is a personal choice.... I have one but really its just a random bunch of posts, where as some peoples are actual proper diaries....
Do take time to have a good look aroud, as u said there are loads of boards/sub-boards/forums.... basically u can use this place as u like..... If u wanna just dip in and out and post every now and then, thats fine.... and if you wanna come here evry day and join in the madness, thats fine...... and if u wanna start a diary, thats fine..... and if u don't, thats fine...... do u see where I'm coming from? :D Basically u use the place as u need to use it.

When ur ready, post ur SOA and we will all try to help as best we can..... there are many people here, and they all have different areas of knowledge, so don't be afraid to ask anything, no matter how silly u may think it is..... I had to ask someone today what to do with a Postal Order cuz I've never had one!

Just stick around here on the DFW board and you won't go wrong ;)

We'll point you off in the right direction of the Old Style board at some point for help with meal planning, but just keep coming back 'home' to us.
