Help microwave mashed potatoes!

I really want to do these for my little boy tonight, and I want to get it all set up because he fell asleep just as I was about to give him his afternoon snack so he will be starving...

Mash will be with a fish finger and some steamed carrots.

I have the recipe in Farmhouse Kitchen Microwave Cookbook...

Which is right next to my 13 month old, teething, full of cold sleeping boy who I don't dare disturb!

Can anyone give me an idea of how to go on - I think it was 1 inch diced potatoes cooked in milk, but I can't remember the proportions.

Many, many, many thanks for anyone who can help!

  • When mine were little I made "cheesy toto" for them a lot. I found it easiest to bake a potato in the microwave, allow it to cool and then scoop out the flesh. I mashed that with milk, butter and cheese. It can then be warmed again.

    I love you!

Roughly how long do potatoes bake in microwaves? Yes, it is a stupid question but my cook books are too near my still sleeping bunny. I usually only use the microwave for milk :o

    Crikey - thanks :j

As to the time it takes, that depends on the size of the potato. I p-rick mine all over with a knife, then nuke on high for about 3 mins. I then check and turn over. I then usually give another 2 or 3 mins.

Exactly what i used to do for DD :) Saves having to wash a pan lol. Sometimes i'd mix the scooped out potato with cheese, put back in the jacket, bit of cheese on top and grill until bubbling.

In my microwave, a medium potato takes about 12-15 mins - think its a 800 watt.

Thank you both so so much for this - I am clueless with microwaves unless it is milk (and just learned how to do scrambled eggs.)

I asked SIL and she said, as long as it takes. If you can't say something nice about someone, don't say anything at all, so...:silenced:
