Barclays & Clydesdale Connected via Woolwich?

Hi, I originaly put this thread in the basic bank accounts but I think maybe I should have put it here since i've so much debt i'm trying to sort out.

I have about £12k of debt with Barclays, both loan & overdraft, and after recently trying loads of banks to get a basic bank account finally got one with Clydesdale.

But now i've gone to Payplan they've turned round and said that I need to get another account as Barclays and Clydesdale are connected with each other?

I really dont want to go through months more stress trying to get a new account, and Clydesdale was a last resort for me anyway.

Does anyone know if this is likely to create a problem for me if I stick with Clydesdale, or have any similar experience?

Many Thanks

  • I used to work for Clydesdale they are owned by National Australia Group as far as i am aware they are not connected to Barclays in anyway but are connected to Yorkshire Bank who are owned by NAG too. Hope this helps

I can't offer any advice I'm afraid but I have a loan with Clydesdale which is now showing up as Barclays on my online statement today so something has happened somewhere.

Thats what I thought but I get the impression that Payplan were trying to say that as they both have a connection with Woolwich as per this www.payplan.com/pdf/bank_acc.pdf they are connected?

It seems from this link that Barclays owns a company called Clydesdale Financial Services.

But Clydesdale Bank isn't part of Barclays.

(Edit: On reading the first article, it was dated a year ago. This is the link to Clydesdale Financial Services, part of Barclays
    Sorry for the messy post!)

No I have heard nothing from either of them. I just have a direct debit come out for the same amount on the same day. But instead of saying Clydesdale as it did last month it now says Barclays prtnr fin.
Tomorrow will be a ring around day I think.
  • Clydesdale Financial Services is not in any way linked to Clydesdale Bank they are a totally seperate company.
