are credit files confidential?/county court claim

I am a chicken,I know that. But my past is really getting to me,I know I have unpaid debt from the past.Like many others I have been lurking around for about a year.I obtained a subprime mortgage last year,I still didnt get my credit files,I went to a F.A. and he sorted it all.
Please can someone help me as I am going out of my mind with worry.I have been getting a lot of phone calls from a debt collector,I just say I dont live here.:rolleyes:Oh my god I am so embarrassing and stupid.I am getting every week letters from a debt collector..I know I need my credit files but am so worried that it will just set off more debt collectors as you have to give your address.I want to confront my debts from past but am terrified that I will be unable to pay,get even more threatening letters. One part is also I have never told anyone is the county court have lodged via a solicitor, that a claim has been against a house I had as a buy to let.A man has made a claim that he walked into my garage door and cut his head and he wants compensation, they wanted my arrest last year but the claim was in my my former married name.I did buy some time but the court officials came last year with a warrant, the house has been since repossessed,I was up to my neck at that point with a custody battel,a separation, and debt. But I am terrified cos this man isnt going away,he wants compensation.I have 2 county court letters sent to me again in my former married name,I have gone by my maiden name now for 6 years. But I want this man gone from my life, they want their money, please I dont know what to do?Yes he was a drunk who apparently drinks out of his area,I am guessing he was drunk and walked into the garage door,it was 11am in mane. But whatever claims are big business,I did go into his solicitors last year and explain that they were putting ina court appeal against me,what did they want. She was such a spiteful person, she just laughed ,said thank you for updating the files and they would be in touch,if I wanted the papers resent it would be at a £1.00 A PAGE,and can I pay £85.00 there and then.I am haunted by this man.I havecontacted CAB are not interested in me,I am not entitled to free advice.I do want to live my life free from debt collectors,I work full time, with 3 children,I get no help, but how can I deal with the county court claim.

I'm a bit confused by your post, maybe it's me just being dull.

Are you saying that there was a warrant for your arrest because you did not pay compensation to this man?

Are any of your debts secured against your current property?

Why are CAB not interested in you? Did you tell them about your debts?

Would it not be cheaper to defend yourself instead of being open to a compensation claim. Are you getting any benefits?

Have you tried contacting one of the debt charities? If you ask for a copy of your credit report then you may well end up getting letters.

Wouldn't you feel better if you could have a proper plan put into place to repay your debts so you know exactly what you have to pay and when, at least you could put some structure back into your life.

You said that the house and garage was in your former married name, does that mean your ex H had any interest in the house as well?

You won't be able to move forward with so many ghosts set to haunt you, please get some advice from somewhere, for your own and your family's sake.

It sounds like you have such a lot going on, take care xx

Most debts that are older than 6 years, will not be legally enforcable, although it doesn't stop the DCAs coming after you. Are you sure the debts they are chasing you about are definitely yours?

You will need to seek more information relating to the debts. There is a letter here that you can amend for this purpose. Ensure any letters to the DCA are entitled "I do not acknowledge any debt to you, your client or any related agencies".

If they are definitely over 6 years old, you can send them a letter informing them that you are aware that they are not enforcable.

There is a letter on nationaldebtline's web site that you can amend to send back.

I can't help on the compensation claim I am afraid, but perhaps someone else can assist.
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D
