Wasn't sure whether to post this here or on the travel forum, but as it is only valid for the next seven days thought I'd post it here.
I needed a family railcard and found invictafm (don't know it but I guess those in Kent might) have 25% off:
http://www.invictafm.co.uk/Article.asp?id=566506&spid=
Also once you've purchased a family railcard you can currently get free YHA family membership.

Thanks for this rustyjames. Can you tell me any more about the yha offer? We already have a family railcard bought late last year, it would be great if we could get the free membership with this but I couldn't find anything on yha's website.
Also the yha only covers england & wales - anyone know what's available in the way of cheap family accommodation in Scotland?
Many thanks!0 -
Thanks for this rustyjames, we needed a new Family Railcard so this has come just at the right time.
PS For anyone who doesn't know this already, be sure to name a second cardholder. It doesn't have to be a relative, just anyone who may travel regularly with your kids, a friend or grandparent maybe. That way they can get the discounts even when you aren't travelling.0 -

YHA membership cards are valid all over the world. Check out all the possibilities by going to www.yha.co.uk clicking through to Overseas. The world is your oyster. I have some amazing holidays/short breaks staying at the hostels. St. Malo,France would be great for families, right on the beach and apart from a cafeteria there is a members kitchen so you can fix your own meals (the meals in the cafeteria are pretty good - it is a training kitchen for chefs attending a residential course). Isle of Ischia,Italy is an ex-hotel with swimming pool - you get a breakfast (roll, coffee & cheese) but no members kitchen or cafeteria you can get a YHA Special evening meal in the plush hotel over the road for a fraction of what the hotel guests pay (makes the restaurant look busy)....happy hostelling.SallyD0

Thanks for this SallyD - great idea to broaden horizons!
I think the link above is broken - should be https://www.yha.org.uk0 -
Thanks so much for this post - the perfect timing!
BTW I joined pigsback to get the 50% money back on the rail as mentioned before only to find it is only on SW trains, thought others may be interested to know.
Thanks
