The company I used to work for are in Administration. The administrators are here collecting all the files from the Finance department and have advised that the next time they come (next week) they will be taking all the personnel files.

Are they allowed to do this? Surely personal information is protected by the DPA?

Yes, they are allowed to do it. They are only doing it to confirm who works there, in what position and what you earn.

They can get all this from the payroll information which they already have.

Surely they don't need my file which contains all information relating to my employment over the last 28 years, i.e. employee appraisals, salary increases, copies of birth/marriage certs etc. ? Don't they need my permission to have access to this? Which if they do by the way, I don't intend to give.

Also, when they have finished with my file, what happens to it?
