Ready for new job after years on Disability Benefits.

Currently on Incapacity Benefit & DLA. Partner & I have 2 children and we also getting Tax Credits (she doesnt work).
I think I may be ready to go back to work after 10 years on benefits.
Job pays approx £17,200 pa. Easier to stay on the benefits and financially better off but sick & tired of life on benefits. Feel as though I have no selfrespect left anymore.
If I take this job, what 'additional' could I still be entitled to? A relative tells me I may still get some level of Tax Credits and something called Disability Tax Credits?
All too confusing.
Help would be appreciated as I am stuck.

im almost certain youd be entitled to tax credits, i think the best thing is to go to your local job centre and see if they can do some kind of assessment, or you might get answers from the tax credit ppl direct, try their website,
might find a calculator and more info on there youd need

You'll still get DLA and you'll be entitled to WTC/CTC and you'll also qualify for the disability component of the WTC as well which is worth a couple of grand.0

Great help guys & gals.
I cant seem to work out how much I could be entitled to. Any benefit type of checker available.
I just want to see how much of these tax credits (there seem to be so many different types) I might be entited to.
All the checkers I have looked at say I will be entitled to about £500-£600 per year.
That doesnt seem right.
Edit: Salary is closer to £14k not £17k as I thought
- but I am still determined to get out of this rut. 0 -
If you are claiming Incapacity Benefit why dont you contact Jobcentreplus and make an appointment to see an advisor who will be able to discuss with you the practicalities of returning to work, they can also do a Better Off Calculation.
Have you thought about going back to work part time intitially?
Good luck!

There is something called Permitted Work Programme, but it only lasts 6 months and you can only earn about £80 a week whilst remaining on benefit. If you are claiming Incapacity Benefit why dont you contact Jobcentreplus and make an appointment to see an advisor who will be able to discuss with you the practicalities of returning to work, they can also do a Better Off Calculation.

www.entitledto.co.uk is as good as any.
Contact your local Jobcentre Plus and ask to speak to either the disability employment adviser or incapacity adviser. (They are usually the same person). Lots of new things coming in to encourage people off of incapacity - including extra money -but that depends on where you live).
If you need that extra incentive - just one statistic
A person on incapacity benefit for two years or more is statistically more likely to die than return to work. - Buck the trend !0 -
Also if you require help getting to work you can look in to a scheme called "Access to work"0
