http://www.quidco.com/ link here.
Its a cash back website, so for each purchase you make via Quidco, they give you cash back, I changed energy suppliers today after comparing several comparison sites and British Gas turned out to be the cheapest supplier for me, if you go through Quidco, you get £60 cashback. I have made £150 this month, I have been applying for credit cards for the cashback only, don;t do this if your credit rating is poor, I have no debt, so it works out for me. Take a look at it, and remember to definitely use Quidco when your home/car insurance is due, you can get upto £100 back.

Another tip, is to E-Bay anything that is not stuck down, or car boot it in the spring, every penny does help.
Another tip, is to meal plan - write a list of your meal for the week and take it shopping with you, don't take the kids, they always want stuff "mum" etc, and don't go shopping when hungry, you'll spend more.
Ooh - and drop a brand at Tesco, basically if you buy Birds Eye, go for the next brand down, you probably won't notice the difference and you'll save money.
Pop over to the Old Style board, lots of tips on there.

I didn't say debt, I said if your credit rating is poor, you need to check your credit rating before applying for any additional cards, you don't want to keep getting knocked back, it will not look good on your credit report.

An article from Martin above regarding credit ratings, etc, check yours, it may be ok to apply for one or two cards.
