sons ski trip

Hi

My son really wants to go on a ski trip with school next year, but he wants to help pay for it, bless him. Anyway he is 14 and wants to get a job, know that things are limited because of his age but would really appreciate any advice.

Thanks

Ali Boo

How about him washing neighbours cars, gardening, a paper round (mind he'd have to get up early in the morning) that way he can earn a few quid.

    Hello pastatwists

As Horace has said, I would also suggest the paper round (I used to have one...........many moons ago;) ) for your son.

I'll move your thread to the 'Employment and Jobseeking' board, where you should get more responses.

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

It is a bit limiting at 14, there are quite a few things he still can't do and there are strict limits on how many hours he can work each week and at what times. Are there any jobs you could afford to pay him to do? DS3 cuts our grass and I obviously overpay him as he is adamant he doesn't need to get a paper round! Mind you he doesn't want to go on a ski trip either ...

Sounds a bit daft, but if he has what they are looking for, they do pay well. It would mean paying to get him to places though.... and time consuming....
  • look at this link it will tell you what they can and cant do also the hours they are allowed to work

I worked in a Cafe/Restuarant when I was 14 and though the wages were woeful it gave me some money to play around with. He could ask around local shops and see if they need any help.

I also notice alot of kids are taking on early morning milk rounds (Helping the Milk-man) and although this means an early start it is again a good way of making money.

Hi, we live in the country, so not sure of the city. My son is now 15 and has difficulty finding work - which he desperate for. Some of his mates wash up in the local pubs (goldust of a job if you can get it), but most won't employ kids until 16 (although I have to say, my daughter at 15 found it easy to get saturday shop work). I think this is because of the restraints the law has on employing kids. He gets work from us for mowing etc., sells surplus eggs from our chickens and breasts duck and pheasant (at £1 a bird, not bad) during the season - which is now over. With all of that he's managed to save over £60 for his school skiing trip.
  • I wouldn't do a paper round, it's slave labour imho, or at least the one my bro does is.
