URGENT HELP - Debt Recovery

The debt recovery people for EDF have come back to me. He said his supervisor has refused the £10 as they can only offer repayment over 12 months and no longer which would mean £31 a month.

Then my phone died! I need to phone them back and sort this out, but he wont budge on the £31 and I really cant afford it.
What can i say?

Thanks

  • Don't back down Amy, you can only give them as much as you can afford. Continue to offer £10 a month, and pay them that amount as well - they won't refuse payment!
That's just a subjective opinion though - I'm sure someone more objective will agree or disagree.
Most importantly, don't let them bully you. If the worst happens and they get the court involved, £10 a month is probably all they'll get anyway.

    Keep fighting x

    Hi Amy

Do not pay more than you can realistically afford each month.

Do not phone them. write to them and enclose an up to date income/expenditure sheet. Send the letter ecorded delivery as well.

If they take you to court no court will order you to pay more than you can afford. I would encloose £10 as first payment as a gesture of good will and keep sending them £10 per month as you have siad you will do.

As they are no longer your energy provider they are not considered a priority debt. Ask them to set up a standing order not a direct debit as a standing order is a set amount a direct debit means they have the right to access your account and take what they like. If they wont either send them £10 per month ort get their bank details and set up a bill payment wityh your bank.

You have to set the standing order up, but you need the account numbers from EDF before you take the form into the bank.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing
