What to send a friend in need....

Right, I know this is gonna seem like a bit of a silly question, because I reply to people on here all the time, and usually I talk sense..... but I have a bit of a dilemma...

A old work colleague and friend of my OH called last night asking for our landlords telephone number, as he's selling his house to move into a rented property. I asked him why, and he said that 'his bills are getting a bit too much'....

Now I am going to send him some links from this site, but which ones are the best ones to send? Or should I just send him the link for the site and let him look around? I wanna help him, but it seems different this time because its a family friend I'm giving advice to rather than a total stranger!

Do you think I am being too intrusive by doing this, as he hasn't actually asked for help? Or am I doing the right thing?

Any advice/guidance will be much appreciated

Sarah x

Maybe let him know some of the major savings people or you have made, like oh with this Old Style cooking, I've saved about £40 a month on food. Or I switched electric suppliers and saved £x a year. It shows that you're making suggestions for saving without saying you have money problems.

    Hi Sarah

I think this is the single best article for newbies on MSE:

Every article on MSE is great but this one is like a portal to them all and a great starting point for everyone!

  • Right, sent the email.... thanks for the link DudleyBoy, I put that in...... I told him about a few peoples experiences, mine included (I used ur example too Gem, thanks for that) and told him to do what he wants with it - by that, I mean that I told him that I wasn't trying to sell him anything and that he had to take the info for what it was and use it as he felt best.
I also attached a link to the debt charities.
I told him that whilst I didn't know his situation, it must be quite bad if he was thinking of selling his house, and told him that there are a lot of people here with a lot of debt who are dealing with it whilst keeping hold of their house.... hopefully I can help, but at least I have tried.....
