These used to be known as 'boiling fowl' here - don't think we see them as often these days - but they may still be available from smaller butchers or maybe organic/farmers shops.
When my grandparents kept their own chickens (50's), any birds that had stopped laying would finish up 'in the pot' - pity the damn nasty cockerel never outlived his usefulness :mad: - would have enjoyed picking him out of my teeth!0
