We retired when my husband was sixty two.......long story.
We have since been living off our savings.
My husband rang the pension's office to ask if he should carry on paying his full stamp and was told no,as we arent working there isn't any need.He is 65 this May so should start claiming his state pension. After reading some of the threads on this site I am worried he might have been mis-informed.Can any one help please

As long as he paid sufficient contributions before he was 62, he has no need to pay them after that age if not working. They are automatically creditted.0

How many years of contributions had he made by the time he retired? It maybe that he has contributed enough - 44 years of NI contributions provides for a full pension.
So if he worked in regular work every year from age 18 (or from earlier age but with only a small gap without paying contributions or getting NI credits when unemployed) and paid sufficient NI contributions, by my reckoning he need make no further contribution to get a full basic state pension at 65.0 -
Thankyou for your replies. He has payed NIC from being 15yrs old to 62years.
So the information he was given was right.0
