Hi all,
Well after looking at outside catering for my nieces 21st party decided we could do much better than the usual Cheese, egg, tuna roll's sausage rolls, cocktail sausage, and quiche for £6.00 per head (150 people expected:eek: )
However, think i need a little help from you MSE's out there;)
Yes we will be doing the usual as above type of menu, but would also like some ideas on other type's of easy but nice buffet type food, marinades for chicken etc etc.
looking forward to your ideas........

My son (21 later this year), west to a 21st where hot food was served with a selection of breads etc.
He said there was a big pots of chille, curry etc. For him to bother to comment it must have been good. I suppose it depends what facilities you have?0 -
i was just think like the above. if you have facilities for hot food then chilli abd curry are both winners.
if not then cold rice salad is nice, salmon with cream cheese on bagels.
dips with crisp and breads. Cold meat and cheese selection with crackers.March 2006 £15,200+ in debt April £843.64 in debt - Debt Free date Sept 2009
Egg Credit Card - £843.64 5.7%0 -

Hi urbancookie1. Have you thought about having hot pizzas delivered to the venue? Give them a time and they will deliver, with the pizzas cut up exactly how you want (well they do that here!). Go down well with teenagers, and 21 year olds are just as much into fast food, aren't they?
Good luck.0 -
I was thinking about pizzas, but I can make huge meat pan size pizzas very quickly and cheaply with lots of lovely toppings. Things like samosas, bhajis, satay sticks etc. also go down well too.
If you do veggie dishes the refrigeration issues won't be as bad, most meateaters will eat veggie food too.0 -
Don't forget the puds! Maybe do some individual type things.
Chocolate cups are good, make your own or they are 3 for 2 in M&S at the moment. You can fill them with all types of goodies... Eton mess, lemon mousse, even a cheesecake type filling, cream cheese, crumbled gingernuts and orange coulis is spring to mind. In fact I might make some like that myself lol
You could do mini meringues with cream and strawberries, mini eclairs, mini cheesecakes, or for 21 year olds you could just do vodka jellies"The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too."- Samuel Butler0 -
I would definitely do chilli and/or curry and jacket potatoes and bowls of salad if hot food is a option. Transferring it and keeping it hot in slow cookers is really good as these are then just plugges in to keep it all warm and make great serving dishes!
If you are buying in, our local fish and chip shop bulk caters and the fod comes in individual cartons with plastic knives and forks and condiments - and that would be under £6 ph.
If you need to go the cold route my local butcher cooked ham, turkey and beef for us for a catered event - and was really good with advice about quantities as well. I would have bought loads more meat, but there was still some left over. I also did two whole salmon (always look good on the table) with big bowls of green salad, pasta salad, rice salad, potato salad and coleslaw and lots of french bread and butter.
For desserts, as already suggested individual portions of meringues, profiteroles and cheesecakes etc make for easier serving. HTH.0 -
Hi as your crowd would be fairly young on the whole and lots of dancing involved a light buffet is poss the best.
Lots of pasta salads, breads pate, vegie and traditional meat and fish (I have a great salmon one),cheese, vegie quiche and rolls as in sausage roll ,rice salad, green salad, savoury muffins.Veg and dips.
Puds fresh fruit salad, brownies, cup cakes,lemon/lime drizzel cake small sweet muffins. Some of the best lessons we ever learn,we learn from our mistakes and failures.the error of the past is the success and wisdom of the future. :j0
