Hair cuts

Probably a very silly question but does any one know what would be considered good value for a haircut? (just simple cut to shoulders with layers) I am willing to wash my own hair first and leave looking like a drowned rat - seen places charging over £10 just to blow hot air at my head!
I am ashamed to say that as a 24 year old woman I have not been to a hairdressers since I graduated aged 21. Well i am graduating again and need a new haircut for the pics!
I live in Birmingham and I am probably looking at one of the suburb hairdressers as I cannot afford city prices.

Hmmmm ... depends ... I actually had my hair dry cut yesterday and was only charged £10 but this was a mobile hairdresser ... When I've been to salons, I've been charged anywhere from £20 - £50 just for a cut (and that includes wash and blow dry).:happylove Tori Bellatrix :happylove

My hairdressers used to charge £11.50 for a wash & cut. I don't like dry cuts. As I iron my hair with GHDs its a pure waste me paying them an extra £10 to do that.
If I was having a restyle I would get a blowdry as they show you how to do it. But for a simple straighten I'm not paying £10.
It might be worth you paying for a wash & blow dry on top of the cut as you will be having more than a simple trim.
My hairdressers have put their prices up lately, its now £17 for a wash & cut, big jump, new owner.
They used to give the most fab wash, like a head massage, they don't do that anymore.
If they still did that I would pay their new prices, but because they don't do that wash/massage, I need to look for a new one.0 -
Ooh weird I was going to post this too!
I want a new hairstyle (but don't know what! I'm 24, very curvy, round face. At the mo my hair's rather long, and I wouldn't go shorter than shoulder length.I like the idea of it being fairly fuss free, no 'product' or electrical type equipment. So 2 questions:
1. Any ideas how to find out what will suit me (for free?)
2. How much for a total restyle?0 -
When I get my hair cut it usually costs £29.50. They don't do dry cuts so I have to let them wash it as well. I don't like them to blow dry it because if they do that then my hair needs to be straightened and I refuse to pay another £5 so I'd rather they just left it wet.-->♥<-- Sugar Coated Owl -->♥<--

Don't rule out city centres, there's more competition so it can help keep the prices down. Also some work on a no appointment system where you just queue for the next available stylist. There is one in Norwich city centre called the crop shop that charges £10.00 for a wash cut & blow dry. Supercuts also work on this system and they charge about £28.00.0

Ask if they need models.. I went to a local hairdressers as 'model' and it cost just £10 for everything.. that was wash, cut, blowdry, and straightened and styled! The girl seemed very professional and was a trainee I guessed but she still cut hair well.. I was very pleased with my haircut and the price!
In another salon near me the same haircut is £34-37!

Try the local college - they do it at ridiculously cheap rates - have to fit in with odd times but they are the cheapest by far.0

Thanks for the prices. I did a phone around an one of the cheapest I could find is £18 - £20 so I am off there this evening. I know they will bully me into having my hair washed as I will have come straight from work which will cost even more but i am just taking a £20 note and nothing more! Just need to decide what to have done now ........0

To add to this, the longer you leave it in the college year,ie feb, march, apr, may, and espec june, the better chance of a better cut(although all students are supervised to a point) as the students have been there since september, thus having more experience.0
