The Difference between Experian and Equifax?

Hi Guys - I am looking to get my credit report as I have entered into an agreement to do a plumbing course (which is o% interest free) and I want to check this out.

I have already had my free trial with experian a couple of years ago and they will not let me have another one (meanies!!) so I will now have to pay for a report, but who do I go with? Not wanting to pay twice for maybe the same thing, but hoping that someone can help me.

Many thanks

    Hi There
They are 2 seperate companies and when you apply for credit the company you are asking credit from will do a search, they use different ones so some will use experian and some will use exifax. To get a true picture of your credit file you need to get them all

There's a table on this page that shows you which creditors use which reference agency.

I ordered an Experian report the other day as they tend to have most creditors on there.

  • Thanks for the info, are these the only 2 credit report companies I need to get hold off as I notice on the list there is a company called creditcall and have never heard of them - but are there any others?

  • I've had noth experian and equifax report and there are some credit accounts that show up on some and not on others, for example, my Egg credit card has never shown up on one of them, yet an old Egg loan, but this never showed up on the other report! Worth having a look at both as some credit companies will only check one and not the other.
Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!
