Panel Solicitors doing remortgages only get about £300 - £350, including disbursements and VAT, so if they can get an additional £160 interest that would be a big additional amount.

  • ...or were you a bit late in instructing them?
No... I started this process on December 1st!

...at the end of the day is just following the instructions
I am the customer and I laid down specific instruction!

Chappers said...Get over it they have done exactly as your mortgage company asked. You were wrong and they were right

Grow up Chappers! You're clearly uneducated and lack any intelligence! Or maybe simply sooo wealthy that you have lost touch with reality (hmmm... obviously not the latter!)

Thank you for all the sensible responses :-)
Far from a 'newbie money saver'... just new to this site ;)

You did leave it a bit tight. Fine for clean business but didnt give much time for snags to be sorted.

If you told your solicitor that everything had to be sorted by a certain date then you have good grounds in a complaint. If the solicitor was left alone and then informed quite late on and at short notice of the completion date, then there is less of a case.

What has probably happened is some trainee clerk has prepared the file and then its been handed to someone more senior to sign off on it and they have spotted a problem.

It is a common misconception that solicitors hold on to clients' money for as long as possible in order to earn (and keep) the interest on that money. In fact, this does not happen (unless it has been expressly agreed in advance with the client) because interest on clients' money belongs to the client as much as the money itself. The Law Society has strict rules about it and every solicitor is aware of them (I assume your solicitor is a member of the law society? If it is then you have recourse).

Mind you is the issue really that you think they are claiming interest or that they haven't repaid the mortgage lender in time?

That is correct back in November 2006 I was involved in a very protracted exchange and completion, in just such a position, 9 months after completion I recieved a cheque from the solicitors for that very reason

The basis of my previous post, #9, was that you had not explained why this was a problem; have you suffered any loss because of their action? If not then I stand by my previous post and believe you are complaining over nothing.
If you have then I apologise.

As to your assessment of my intelligence, wealth and grasp on reality how astute of you, thats uncanny.
