Using vouchers in tescos at the self service tills

I visited tescos twice this week, the first time i used a £2 nicorette coupon and it called and assistant over who tapped in a store number etc, didnt say anything and then walked off!

The second time was the mails book token, the screen said authorisation required, no one came over and it cleared it from the screen. I still got the £4 discount

Whats happening?

Do these vouchers need to be authorised?

Thanks!

Some branches of Tesco have authorisation set on certain vouchers, particularly high value ones or when they've had a spate of fiddling going on.

The second one which 'magically' cleared itself will have been done by a staff member either on CS till or on the operator console for the self service tills. In some stores they can see the log for the self service tills on tills in both of these locations and clear them from there as well.

i can confirm the above. some stores will have an operator who can see your purchases/ discounts. some of the operators are as lazy as........ and cant be bothered to look thru and will just authorise anything!
  • this morning it took the SA about 10 attempts to manually try to authorise my coupon once it'd been accepted ! strange but glad it finally worked :j

Our self scan accepts coupons up to 29% of cost then needs authorisation where they soon sort so I use my highest valued coupon last.

Used £6 worth on self scan last night at our local store. Had some more vouchers but could feel eyes on me so pretended to sort through as if looking to see which ones I could use - all went through no problem and no assistant called. As has been said before I think it varies from store to store and assistant to assistant - you just have to be in the right place at the right time I think ! Also not take the pee !
