Help! Newbie wants to haggle!

Hi Everyone!

I'm a complete newbie to this and I need a bit of advice! I'm looking to buy 3 bridesmaid dresses and I was looking for a bit of advice on haggling? I have found them cheaper online but once you add in delivery and everything it is only a difference of £80 - only 18% of the cost. Any advice on how would I go about negotiating the shop down?

Thanks!

Let the shop know the online price but refrain from telling them the postage costs - you could also contact the online retailer and haggle with them - even if its just to get the postage down.

Always remember retailers do have a % profit and they are almost always happy to see you get a deal, which means you tell your friends or go back again yourself.

Your job when haggling is to find the lowest price the retailer would be prepared to drop down to.

In order for you to do that, you have to be prepared to walk away from the deal and walk out of the shop.

If you do walk out, don't forget that you can always change your mind and go back in at another time.

All the best negotiating is 'win/win'. If you walk out completely then you lose and the shop loses too.

Start off by saying your funds are a bit short but you'd really like to be able to have your bridesmaids wear their stuff. Ask them if there is any way they can help you on this special day. This is when you'll get an idea on their attitude to dropping the price. If you can let them go first here and they do drop the price then your response would be to offer a suggestion about 20% lower than that - with the aim of doing a deal in the middle at only 10% lower than that.

Hey! I have to go and put the coffee on or I'll be here all day. ;)

    Good Luck!

Just ask what their best price is considering you're buying 3.

If you don't get a decent discount I would then say you can get them for X but you would prefer to give your local shop the business but obviously you have to work to your budget and £ could be put toward the flowers, shoes etc.

If they won't budge and you really want to buy from them then ask what they could throw in free, tiara, shoes etc - I'd ask this anyway once I'd got the price down ;)
