Is Porridge Oats Bread Sweet?

Hi,

I have forgotten to make a loaf of bread for a meeting today and the only recipe for my breadmaker that can use the quick setting is poridge oats bread.

I have all the ingredients but I'm not sure whether it is a sweet bread - it is to go with soup so does anyone know if it would be suitable?

(If not I shall nip in to the bakery on the way.)

Sophie

  • I sometimes put a couple of tbspns of porrige oats in with the flour and its just a standard loaf, you can't even tell the difference. I wouldn't say it was sweet, what else is in your recipe?

  • The recipe is:-

    Milk - 1 cup
    Eggs - 2
    Sunflower oil - 1/2 tsp
    Golden Syrup - 2 tbsp
Sugar - 1/4 cup (that's the bit that worries me!)
    Salt - 1tsp
    Plain Flour - 2 cups
    Porridge Oats - 1 cup
    Baking Powder - 1/2 tsp
Bicarb of Soda - 1/2 tsp

Having just typed it out I've noticed it's normal plain flour too - it looks like it's more cakey than bready :o

  • It is sweet - I made this one for the first time over the weekend as I had some oats to use up. It went down such a treat with the kids and my neighbours, I seem to have ended up taking orders! lol I must admit, I only put in half the sugar though.

  • Thanks everyone - I think I shall nip to the bakery on my way to the meeting and make the porridge oats bread tomorrow for when my friend comes found for a cuppa!
