this is my light bulb day. I have been trying to sort my debt but the bulb I was burning was a low energy 5watt job, which was no help at all. But after to much delay I am fed up with my debt and have decided to change the 5watt buld for a 1000watt flood light!! I am very pleased to have found this site, there is so much information to read and new avenues to investigate to tackle my £37,326.17 of debt. I have read some amazing turn arounds on this site and have been encouraged by them all. I look forward to reading more, discovering tips and hearing any advice on how to deal with debt. many thanks to you all . jjduk

Hi jjduk
Your debt is about what mine was at its highest (the lightbulb moment in my signature was a proper one, i had had a small glow several years ago and reduced it a bit the it stayed stagnant for AGES)
Have you had any thoughts yet about how you want to do it?? Earn more? spendmore? both?
Have you done a proper budget yet?? The best things I did were a spending diary (I realised I spent £150 a month on coffee and pastry in the morning on my way to work and lunch at work - it makes you think twice about spending it if you know you will see it again and again and again) and a proper budget which is now written out on A3 paper and stuck on my wall, oh and of course posting on here lots.
Check out information about snowballing (err don't google it though unless you put debt + snowballing - the webste you are after is whatsthecost) and also look at doing an SOA (statement of affairs) so that people can trawl through what you pay for things and help you to make savings.
This site has done more to make me feel good about sorting out my debts than anything - stick with it and you will see your debt slowly start to slide away. Good luck!£34,547 (Dec 07); Current debt: £zilch (Debt free December 2010)

Anyway good luck on whichever way you decide to tackle yours. I am sure both of us with the info, help and support of everyone on this great site will do well :j

Hi jjduk and Gems and welcome to you both. I'm also quite new to the site, but all the great advice to be had here is amazing and I hope you both benefit greatly from it.
How about doing a SOA as "poorandindenial" suggests, I've seen so many other people here helped so much that way. Very often it's the things, we're not even aware of until someone points them out, that are the very things crippling us with our debts.
Good luck to you both and I truly hope things soon start to turn around, one things for certain, you've made that vital start!
