Voluntary Redundancy

Hi - I work for a large organisation (9,000) employees. I am 30, they are making 400 people redundant and are targeting particular job areas. I am in one of the job areas and have put in for voluntary redundancy. I have had health problems for the last five years and in 2004 I took 8 months off sick (all documented) by my Dr/Specialist. When I returned to work in 2005 I was sure they would give me voluntary redundancy due to my sick record but I was refused because I was good at my job. Since returning to work I have taken 2 or 3 months off work each year (unpaid) and my health is really suffering from the pressure of this job and I would really like to get voluntary redundancy because I feel I need to take time out to get my health back. When I had my one to one consultation with HR I asked if my sickness record would help me get redundancy, but I was told they did not know what selection criteria was to be used, but I was told that I did a good job again but I don't want to be refused again. Please could anyone give me any ideas of anything else apart from my sickness record that I could use to try my best to get voluntary redudancy? Does anyone know what selection criteria is usually used ? Thank you very much in advance for your help.

You tend to find that larger companies don't use a selection process that includes your sickness record as they are scared of legal action.

You can read up on it through the ACAS website or CAB.
