I think this debate is all about horses for courses.

I doubt that there is nothing majorly wrong with the set from Aldi and I'm sure for most it will be more than adequate. If it is and suits your needs then thats great and we should thank the OP for the thread.

On the flip side I think we need to put this into perspective and consider, and accept that it won't be as good in certain aspects as a premium branded set such as Panasonic or Sony.

Most people would look at 2 cars and say they both have 4 wheels, an engine, and seats, but accept that they are not the same. You wouldn't say my rickety old escort is as good as a new Audi - I accept that and wouldn't argue the point as it isn't in many ways. But it doesn't mean it won't get me from A to B, so therefore does the job for me. You have to compare eggs with eggs and not put everything on the same level.

If its what you want then great, and if its not, its not.

Sorry I cannot agree with that statement, it could well be, there are lots of people having problems with both Sony and Panasonic TV's over on AVForums, at least Aldi give a 3 year warranty, which does not come as standard with either Sony or Panasonic from most retailers.

This Tevion LCD uses a Samsung panel, Sony also use Samsung Panels in quite a few of their LCD's. So not all Sony's are really premium. If you can live with not having the SONY brand then I doubt there will be much difference in quality, if any..
  • Hi,
Strangely enough, I too didn't receive the email this week about the specials which is now showing on the Aldi web site for the 7th February minus the Television!!! I have just taken a trip down to my local store and the assistant has confirmed they are getting them in tomorrow. She went on to say, they would be delivered through the night but was unable to tell me how many were coming in. Shall I wait in the queue or not? Sally

i picked up a 32 inch for 279 in asda back in november, they were boxed up on the end of the tv isle (none on display) no priceing, i was looking for a cheap tv as mine had gone on the blink, i wandered off looking for a member of staff to ask the price i was very suprised when he told me 279, just wish i could get a hold of another, i hooked the PC upto the VGA and like the idea of of a 32" monitor for the PC now. lol

    Hi Sally,

If your after a full HD LCD TV then at this price you cannot really go wrong, Aldi are normally good regarding refunds so if your not happy then return it.

If I was looking for a 32" then I would honestly consider this one.

    Hope this helps
  • Bought one of these sets about 2 years ago and it has been spot on. No problems at all and a very good picture. I think I remember this new set being advertised with built in freeview as well. Went to my local Aldi this pm and staff tell me they are not pushing the advertising of them as the supplier has let them down and each store will not be receiving as many as expected. My store expect to only receive 8 sets.

On the other hand you could say it is like comparing a Skoda with a Seat with a VW. they are are made up from exactly the same parts but are badged differently so the quality should be the same and the only difference is the price you pay for the badge.

Sorry but my Sony from a Sony Centre has a 3yr warranty from a year ago and I now see they offer 5yrs.

I did say from " most retailers ", obviously Sony Centres charge a premium price over some retailers to cover the cost of this extended cover, it is not standard if you buy one from the likes of Currys or Comet etc.
