Newbie here - Argos delivery FOUR MONTHS late

Evening all - I'm not even sure if I'm posting this in the right area (i.e. if this section is only for bargains to be had from Argos) but I bought (and paid for....) a full bedroom suite from Argos in October.

All items were delivery within 14 days or 3 weeks.

I received everything eventually, with the exception of a chest of drawers - £99.99.

Were supposed to be delivered within 3 weeks, then received a phone call saying it would be towards end on November. When that time came close I received a letter saying it would be before 21st December. (It came in two parcels, they had one half of the item but not the other).

It got to that point and heard nothing so rang again, but they said it would now be early January.

Obviously I complained as I'd paid for the darn thing in October, they agreed that some form of compensation should be owed but they would arrange this once the item had actually been received.

I would have cancelled the thing, but it goes with the rest of the bedroom and can't find one anywhere else.

Anyway, then I receive an Argos delivery - it's the half of the drawers that they DID have - alas, still no second half.

Finally it was in stock and was arranged to be delivered two days ago, 2nd February - not surprisingly at 10.15 I got phone call saying the half an inch of snow we'd had that morning (which, where I live, had by this time disappeared) had caused chaos with the delivery vans and they couldn't deliver.

It's now apparently coming on 16th February - over four months after I paid for it.

My question is not whether I should be receiving some form of compensation, as they've already wholeheartedly agreed that it's unacceptable, but how much compensation should I be requesting / what I should/shouldn't accept.

Any ideas?

Many thanks - G.

It's however much money you've lost because of it. If you spent £1.50 on phone calls, that's how much you should be asking for.

i want to add that i paid a man for a whole days work to build my bedroom suit, 2x wardrobes and 2 bedsides plus the chest of draws. and so because of the mistake they made i had to pay my man to come out again to build the chest of drawers they later replaced for me.

    your kidding right ?

no way is that £1.50 acceptable.

let them make an offer and go from them

i would say minimum £50 but make sure its in a CHEQUe and not one of their vouchers so you run the risj of using it but having to end up waiting 6 months for ther deleivery of an item

No, I'm not. The purpose of compensation is to restore the injured party to the financial point they were in at the time the contract was entered. I can't imagine how the OP would have lost £50 because of a late delivery.

Well, let's call that "special damages", i.e. £1.50

Now, how about the "general damages", i.e. four months of hassle and loss of amenity. If you bought a whole suite of stuff, this compensation might be as much as the whole cost of the missing item, but certainly a significant part of it, or else think in terms of a proportion of the whole original order. Would £30 make sense then?

Most likely they'll send a couple of £10 vouchers, which isn't so bad.

  • No surprises there for Argos then.

I ordered 2 sets of bunk beds, 2 sets of wardrobes/chest of drawers and a dining table in September.

Had a phonecall 3 weeks later to say my order would be despatched the next day - I asked for confirmation that it was the beds/wardrobes and table, to which they responded just the beds and wardrobes the table will be a few more weeks.

I duly cleared out the kids rooms to make room for their new beds etc ( OH took the others to the tip on the day we were to expect delivery)

Delivery arrived - and it was the table and chairs!!!!!

I phoned and was told they were having supply problems but would be with me soon, oh and the apologised for telling me the wrong info. To which I said an apology is great but what are my kids supposed to sleep on?

I had to go and get them some temporary blow up beds and had to get a canvas wardrobe to put all their clothes in (I have 3 kids)

My order finally arrived 15th January!!!!!

What did argos give me..........................£30 Argos vouchers for my inconvenience!!!!!! Despite the fact I had spend more than that on temporary things while I waited for their stuff to arrive.

I will not be using them again - I have put the vouchers aside to give out at Christmas as I will not be going to their stores again.
