1940's fashion..where to buy cheaply

In June the village I live in is holding a 1940's weekend and I would really like to dress the part. I have always thought there was something quite chic about 40's fashion. Does anyone know of anywhere cheap (apart from ebay or charity shops) to buy something for the event? And any suggestions on the actual outfit would be appreciated too:T

If your handy at sewing www.sewingpatterns.com sell patterns from the 40s, so have a look at them to get ideas, or do a search on google, you might get some ideas.0

yes, 1940's look is the in-thing this spring so any of the cheaper fashion shops; New Look, MK One, Pilot should have nice blouses and pencil skirts.0

I think you might get some more ideas in the 'I wanna buy it' board so I'll move this over for you. Perhaps you could give your rough location too incase anyone knows any specialist type shops near you.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0

Thanks Gingham Ribbon, I am in Dorset. Haven't been here that long so not sure if there is any specialist shops around. I am going to look in Mark One, New Look etc as well as scouring charity shops.
I don't know whether I want something chic or something that was worn by women everyday in the kitchen such as a pinny over everyday clothes. I'm going to have fun deciding.:rotfl:£2 savers club. No.90. Aim £500.0 -

A cheap solution would be to wear a set of overalls, with one of those turban things they used to wear. Stick a woodbine in your mouth and you'll look like a factory girl off to make munitions!'Never keep up with Joneses. Drag them down to your level. It's cheaper.' Quentin Crisp0
