Went to court today - I'm officially bankrupt!

Well folks, this is it. I'm now a statistic! This is what has happened in the last 24 hours.

About 12.00pm last night finished doing forms online - REALLY easy way of doing it.
About 11.00am this morning turned up at court with my £485, signed all the forms, swore on the Bible that it was all true (hope I didn't mess them up or a lightning bolt is now going to get me!)
11.15am went upstairs to see the Court Usher who told me to wait and he'd come and get me when it was all over.
11.35am called into the court over the speaker system .... judge wanted to see me
AAARRRRGGGG!!!
11.36am very nice man, in a very nice suit with a huge Royal Crest behind him asked me politely if I understood the huge undertaking this was and whether I had received any advice to get to this point. Informed him (in squeaky voice!) that the nice people at National Debtline had advised this was best course of action. He then warned me that this would jeopardize getting credit in future ... I said I didn't care because I was never going to use credit again 'coz I couldn't be trusted. He laughed and then signed the form.
11.40 left the court room with folder.
11.50 ushered into a room by lovely court staff who told me the OR would ring me on the phone in there.
12.00 midday, OR rep rang, told me I would receive a pack in the post with confirmation of interview date and time (could be telephone or office interview) and told me to get alternative bank account my wages can go into.
1.00pm opened Coop cashminder account - now awaiting confirmation of account details so I can pass to payroll - will take 5 days apparently.

End of story. .... well this chapter anyway, the OR interview is next but I have already compiled a file which contains statements and wageslips and all sorts of stuff so I am prepared.

ANyone thinking of doing this ..... it's not as bad as you think. I didn't sleep last night but will tonight. I had nothing to worry about.

this forum provided me with advice and support all the way and I dare say I will be still be on here when the OR interview looms!

Thanks guys.... means such a lot to have such a good community of "been there, done that's" !!!!!

Having fish and chips tonight in celebration of me being free from debt .... NEVER AGAIN!! :T

  • I feel a bit jealous of all you brave lot that did the deed today. You all sound so breezy. How brave of you to tell the judge that you couldnt be trusted!! I think I am going to need scaffolding to hold me up.

    Gulp!
