I have butter tartlets that were purchased in M&S and I was wondering what do people normally put in them? Has anyone any suggestions?
Hubby got a tartlet in Sainsburys which contained strawberries but I don't know what the rest of it was, does anyone know?

I would fill them with strawberries (or more seasonal fruits) and cream or creme anglais.0

If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0

In pastry tarts, it's usually a creme patissiere (a thick, rich almost 'set' custard) rather than a creme anglais (which is custard, and would be runny and would make the pastry soggy). Then they're normally topped with fresh fruit and glazed with melted jam or redcurrant jelly, or some kind of quick gel.
So, you can put fruit and creme patissiere, or you could put some caramel or dulce de leche in it, and bananas and whipped cream and you've got a quick banoffee tart (you can buy dulce de leche, or you can make it, or Nestle now sell a ready made one in a tin). Or you could put a chocolate cream or mousse and some whipped cream on top, or just some sweetened, vanilla flavoured whipped cream and some strawberries and raspberries, and dribble some melted chocolate over that ...0 -

Creme anglais is "posh" for custard (not Birds! :rotfl: ) Creme patissiere is "posh" custard i.e home made and thick, folded into an equal quantity of whipped cream (double for preference... my preference anyway!) I would paint the bottom of the tart case with seedless raspberry jam, add a good dollop of creme pat and top with sliced peaches (canned at this time of year, or any time as peaches in this country are rarely ripe enough for this.) You could drizzle more jam carefully over the top as a decoration... mmmm...0 -
