last week i wrote on how a got out the blue from someone i owe money to so the first thing i did was phone them up. After one of the worst phone calls in my life ie they not really wanting to help me out in any way. they said i could pay back £30 pcm but they needed it before 15/2 not good as don't get paid til a week and half after.
well this morning i had a letter of them saying that after the phone call with me they are writing to let me know that they agree i can pay back £50 pcm but they want it before 20/2 still to early.
the thing is what do i do and where do i stand do i have to pay back £50 pcm or £30 and will they take things futher if it is a week late

I would use the payment calculator and template letters off the national debt helpline website and make them an offer of payment you can afford to pay each month and tell them what date you can make the payment each month.
Do you definately owe this company money its not to clear from your post and is it with the original company or a debt collection agency?0 -
yeah i owe them the money it was with captial one and they have passed it on to someone else so i bit mad as well as i wrote to captial one months ago asking if i can set up a payement plan and they wrote back and said sorry its out of our hands and thats all i heard until last week0

A debt collecting company are more likely to take lower payments. You are better writing to them as they are basically paid to bully more out of you by phone.
Take a look at the national debt helpline website and you will see the budget sheet etc you can use, they will be used to seeing them so know you know what you are talking about. Then make your offer and when you want to pay by.
Another thing never pay a debt collecting agency by direct debit, some companies try to offer this I always choose standing order or cheque payments.0 -
thank you. i will have a look and i told them over the phone i'm not setting up dd and will send them a postal order so glad i did as they are already messing me around0

Very wise of you, they are not the most reliable people in the world!0

don't discuss anything on the phone with them write to them and tell them in future all communication is in writing only. send them a clear breakdown of your income and expenditure and offer ONLY what you can realistically afford and keep up with. That does not neccasarily mean paying what they ask for.
Who are this firm is it capital one or a collection agency?
Make sure all payments are either by standing order or paying in book. dont set up a direct debit facility. many offer the option of paying on line which is safe. Do not part with your debit card number to them either because they will charge it again and again
Be firm with them and explain that you can make payments on a set date and make sure you pay on or before that day.
I repeat do not pay more than you can realistically afford. Just because they shout the loudest doesn't mean they get preferential treatment.
