Student so do i miss out on some pension contribution?

does this not mean I will miss out on some years for my pension? i studied for 5 years at a french uni and never got any papers through on national insurance contributions. As i studied nearly 20 years now they say I cannot pay for this as you can only pay for the last 6 years which means i have missed out on 5 years. always kept my UK residency but never received any mail. may have been because my mum moved back then. any ideas?

You will not get paid contributions whilst in higher education.

Until last year or so it had been many years since the IR had sent out reminders for NI, they have now resumed sending them out.

Also, you wouldnt get anything off the IR unless you told them you where abroad, did you inform them ??

Contact State pension forecasing on 0845 3000 168 and get a forecast, this will give you information on what you can do or alternatively go on to https://www.thepensionservice.gov.uk and use the online forecasting system.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.

IMHO this 6 year restriction should go.Everyone should be allowed to buy up missing years, back to the age of 16.

There are too many people who were unaware of the 6 year rule, which has rarely if ever been publicised. They have not chosen to avoid paying for their state pension. Rather they have been deprived of the right to do so through ignorance. This particularly affects women who are already the main victims of pensioner poverty.

Drop the 6 year rule,I say.
    Trying to keep it simple...;)
