the best place for slow cooker advice is the old style board - there are loads of recipes and advice on different brands. do a search on that board and you will have hundreds of threads of useful info!

Not 90 mins every day, but it was near enough on say a Sunday where I'd cook a nice breakfast (20 mins to wash/dry) and then a Sunday lunch (40 mins wash/dry) and then some late tea/supper (20 mins) plus cups of tea and snacks throughout day. I do like to try and cook from scratch most of the time though.
Maybe I was just a slow washer upper and dryer upper then ? or maybe it was the cups of tea and talking to others whilst I was doing it !!

Leave things to drain and dry on their own. Then you only spend the same amount of time in putting things away as you would with a dish washer.

i watched one of the consumerism progs one day when i was off ill. they did a test in a laundrette where the washed several loads of similarly stained clothes using different-and in one case NO- detergent. the results were startling-no differnce between the expensive/cheap brands and very little where there was NO detergent. i switched to the huge supermarket own brand stuff-saving c £3 a week-now over 10 years thats a lot of money!!
i also LURVE charity shops-most of my wardrobe comes from them-tis stunning what people give away!! whilst looking for me i discovered i had an eye for this and started buying stuff to e bay-recently bought a coat for £25 which sold for £125- a suit for £4.25 that sold for £70 and a bottle of perfume for £10 that sold for £60-nice little side line!!
and with regard to easier- its about good enough-i have a sign in my hall that reads 'our house is clean enough to be healthy and dirty enough to be happy' that attitude stopped me ulcerating at kids n mess n stuff-my other sign says 'you can touch the dust but please dont write in it'

Since we always pay our credit cards off in full every month, we've put the payments onto automatic direct debit. This has saved the worry of remembering to pay them before the due date and ensures that payments are not made late, incurring interest penalties if we're away on holiday.
In good weather I also don't bother to use my washing machine, but wash clothes by hand on a daily basis, letting them drip dry in the garden, thus saving energy. As we're not on a water meter this saves some electricity
And batch cooking of soups, spag bol sauces etc, and putting the surplus in the freezer.

i once tried the 'value washing powder - think it was 50p for a kg box and i agree there really was not much difference in that and the more expensive brands!!

things are a bit tight at the mo, i might have to switch back to that for a while!!!

  • Had a tiny freezer compartment which meant I couldn't get deals as no where to free. Got a cheap freezer (was £20 delivery but i got a taxi for £9 instead), now I can freeze things and get deals - saved me a load of money.
